After Fox Chapel in 2025, we knew we wanted another stop within the lineage of Golden Age architecture. Tamarack Country Club is that stop. Built in 1929 by Charles H. “Steam Shovel” Banks, the protégé who carried Seth Raynor’s design DNA into a bold new era, Tamarack showcases dramatic geometry, thoughtful templates, and strategic questions that unfold from tee to green.
This Classic is an invitation to walk one of Connecticut’s most compelling Golden Age courses with other RGC Members for a full day of competition and shared storytelling. Tamarack feels timeless, grounded in history yet built for the kind of round you remember long after the score fades.

THE HISTORY
Tamarack Country Club is the work of Charles H. “Steam Shovel” Banks, the trusted protégé of Seth Raynor and one of the final torchbearers of the Golden Age template tradition. Banks was known for building bold, larger-than-life features with engineering precision, then layering in strategy that forces you to choose a line and commit.
Tamarack shows Banks at his most confident. Sweeping bunkers, perched greens, and template-inspired holes that reward smart angles and nerve. It’s a design that blends the Raynor philosophy with Banks’ own dramatic fingerprint, creating a course that feels both historic and intensely playable.

No. RGC Classics are built for all skill levels. We do cap playing handicaps at 18 for men and 28 for women to keep the competition fair.
Yes. We’ll pair you with another RGC Member. Most friendships start on the first tee anyway.
Your round of golf, RGC gifts, entry into contests, and the full-day Classic experience. Everything that is outlined in the Event Details section.
Definitely. Just be mindful of other players and the pace of play. We’ll also have an event photographer sharing photos after the round.
Competitive enough to make it fun, not serious enough to ruin the vibes.
Caddies depend on the course and are optional. They are not included in the ticket price.
